But only for those who believed in Him. For the pagan Romans and the great majority of the Jews, He was simply Jesus. To call Him Jesus Christ was a statement of faith: it meant that you believed that He was the Messiah. Today, many people say “Jesus Christ” or “Christ” thoughtlessly, or as a profanity. They do not make any claim to believe in who He was. It’s just a name, commonplace, to be tossed out and kicked around without thinking. Strangely, they don’t use the names of other religious figures
